Le Carrefour aux 50 piliers

Le Carrefour aux 50 piliers

Artist: Daniel Buren (1938)
Installation date: 2017
Techniques: Dibond boxes, light boxes, translucent paper

In the space leading to the urban transport hub, Daniel Buren has "cladded" the fifty existing posts to their full height, with 26.1 cm square dibond boxes. He introduced color on two sides of the pillars: "ocean" blue on one side and "cyclamen" red on the other. The other two are clad in alternating white and black vertical stripes 8.7 cm wide. The alignment of the pillars follows the pattern of the marble flooring. The walls of the corridors leading to and surrounding this work are made of light boxes covered with white translucent paper, accentuating the luminosity of the whole.
