La Fontaine à boire

La Fontaine à boire

Artist: Claude Torricini (1930)
Installation date: 1987
Techniques: Bronze with patina

This frog-shaped drinking fountain is located on the Esplanade du Général de Gaulle. A small frog, placed in the mouth of the large one, spits out water. The granite benches arranged in a circle around the sculpture are like terraces, inviting us to admire, for a moment, this curious spectacle.

A word about the artist

Born in Fort de France in 1930, Claude Torricini now lives in Paris, where she pursues her stylized, refined and poetic sculptural bestiary, whose creatures add a delightfully naive and mischievous note.

From monumental statues in bronze or granite to small figurines in wood or clay, Claude Torricini creates works in a refined, poetic style. She uses both bas-relief and modelling techniques. Her animal creations often have an environmental purpose, and are displayed in green spaces and public squares.
