Les Hommes de la cité

Artists: France et Hugues Siptrott (1950)
Installation date: 1995
Techniques: Bronze with patina

The eight sculptures in polychrome patinated bronze refer to anonymous crowds of passers-by who can recognize themselves in a frozen eternity. The space below can be perceived as a primitive garden where men and trees rise towards the light.

Six standing figures are gathered on a marbled space, while a seventh observes them from a perch. The last figure is at the level of the RATP staircase leading to the platform of metro line 1.

A word about the artist

A sculptor-plastician couple, France and Hugues Siptrott seek to reconcile extremes in a new dynamic. Convinced of the need́ to reharmonize the human/nature/culture experience, they work to generate a new way of looking at man's environment. They have created major installations such as the ScyIla fountain at Strasbourg's Palais des Congrès, the forecourt of the French Embassy in Conakry, or the tutelary saint at Evry Cathedral, the great memorial dedicated to the servicemen of North Africa and Overseas in Strasbourg.
