Les Points de Mire

Artist: Béatrice Casadesus (1942)
Installation date: 1981
Techniques : Cast concrete

Based on the principle of pixelated relief prints, this bas-relief in cast white concrete plays with the multiple transcriptions of fullness and emptiness, of what we are allowed to see and what is hidden from us. This research into pictorial pointillism has brought to life the faces of famous actors, including Michèle Morgan, Brigitte Bardot, Gérard Philippe and Charlie Chaplin, along the façade of the Westfield Les Quatre Temps shopping center.

The work has been there since the opening of the Westfield Les Quatre Temps shopping center in 1981, accompanying moviegoers to the exit of the old cinema. Following work on the center and the relocation of the cinema, the work is no longer visible from inside.

A word about the artist

Béatrice Casadesus has created a subtle contemporary work. It combines the attractive forces of architecture, painting, engraving and photography. Like the neo-impressionist painter Georges Seurat, Béatrice Casadessus lays claim to the influence of Far Eastern art, conveying the idea that not everything can be seen at once.
