Rythmes

Rythmes
Artist: Michel Deverne (1927-2012)
Installation date: 1970
Techniques : Aluminium
In 1970, the artist designed two 40 m² aluminum reliefs above exits E and D of the Cœur Transport station for the Grande Arche La Défense RER interchange.
Through a composition that skilfully plays with solids and voids, light and shadow, the ensemble creates an illusion of space and speed.
A word about the artist
Born in 1927, Deverne developed his artistic activity in architecture and the city. Using aluminum and concrete in particular, he has worked in France and abroad. His creations can be admired in many public places, such as the mosaics adorning the facades of buildings in Colombes, the cité hospitalière in Lille, or the steel relief on the BNP building in Tokyo.
Deverne's approach is in the tradition of kinetic art, creating the illusion of movement by juxtaposing identical elements. In this way, he creates an optical illusion for the viewer as he moves.
