La Voiture sur le lampadaire

La Voiture sur le lampadaire
Artist: Benedetto Bufalino (1982)
Creation date: 2019
Installation date: 2020
Techniques: Peugeot 406, candélabra
The least we can say is that the name of this work is representative of reality! The lamp car is a white Peugeot 406 turned upside down on its roof and perched atop a candelabra. Hard to miss, the work created especially by Benedetto Bufalino for the 2019 edition of Les Extatiques, has since officially joined the Paris La Défense art collection. Originally arranged near the Le Moretti fireplace, La voiture sur le lampadaire moved, on June 12, 2020, to the Valmy district, between the Spaces building and the Grande Arche. Benedetto Bufalino's work interacts with the architecture and users, and participates in the life of the neighborhood by illuminating the public thoroughfare at dusk.
A word about the artist
Born in 1982, Benedetto Bufalino is an artist-adventurer in public spaces. Public space is Benedetto Bufalino's playground. The artist creates objects and situations based on misappropriation and manipulation.
Benedetto Bufalino invents new stories and new uses that depart from common sense, taking the forms that make up our familiar environment and proposing a new reading of them. Recycling cars into ping-pong tables, or transforming telephone booths into aquariums, he creates the extraordinary, generating conversation and conviviality through humor and derision. His so-called "contextual" works are always conceived for a particular territory. The artist likes to provoke unexpected encounters between an object and a territory that are a priori incompatible.
