Paris La Défense inaugurated Les Terrasses Boieldieu in October 2018, a historic La Défense district located in Puteaux. This worksite has given the current aging and outdated infrastructure a new lease of life and a more qualitative living environment for the employees and residents who frequent it on a daily basis. The aim was to overhaul the urban organization of the public spaces in this district and resolve the structural technical problems.

The Boieldieu district, built in the late 1960s, had never been renovated. Its public spaces had been neglected since their creation. What's more, the slab-based design with several levels of traffic made the neighborhood, located behind the Westfield Les 4 Temps shopping center, even more of an enclave.

Yet Boieldieu is a perfect example of mixed-use development, combining offices, shops and housing. With this project, Paris La Défense is improving the daily lives of employees and residents alike, by making it more accessible, welcoming and lively.

Access to the district has been reworked, with an elevator installed to link the areas above and below the slab, and easier access for cyclists and people with reduced mobility. In addition, a footbridge has been created between the La Défense forecourt and Puteaux town center, offering a gently sloping walkway. A Community garden and sports equipment are also provided. Last but not least, public lighting - on masts, LED or integrated into the street furniture - gives the Terrasses Boieldieu a warmer, more convivial feel, conducive to a true sense of neighborhood life.

Paris La Défense is responding to a growing demand for a "reconnection with nature" by proposing new planting, improved access and new uses for the Terrasses Boieldieu. Similarly, with a view to sustainable development, the soil will absorb rainwater more efficiently to feed the green spaces, reducing the need for watering systems.

Two Community gardens have been created by Paris La Défense on the Terrasses Boieldieu, in partnership with the City of Puteaux, and in consultation with local residents and employees. The Continents garden (located above the Philosophe bar) and the Suspended garden (opposite the entrance to the Franklin Tower on the Terrasses).
