The redevelopment of Place des Groues aims to create a lively and welcoming space, designed for everyday use.

At the heart of the square, a large open space, nicknamed the “urban clearing,” will invite people to stroll around. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to move freely. This central space, covered with stabilized sand flooring, has been designed to host a variety of events such as flea markets, garage sales, concerts, and much more.

A friendly and pleasant place to live all year round

Thanks to its location, the center of the square will be relatively protected from cold winds in winter, although there may be drafts near the entrances. Overall, the square will be perfectly suited for activities such as café terraces, markets, or children's play areas. Sunlight will vary depending on the season: in winter, the square will be fairly shaded thanks to the surrounding buildings. In summer, the central part will remain well exposed, but comfortable shaded areas will be provided by new trees planted to complement the existing plane trees along Avenue Arago. These improvements will help reduce the effects of summer heat.

Large areas will be available for terraces (up to 300 m², depending on the activities planned for the ground floors of the surrounding buildings). Benches and other seating will be installed around the square, offering plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings. In the center of the square, a large circular clearing will provide an ideal open space for organizing flea markets, concerts, and other events.

A green border for a soothing setting

All around the square, a wide strip of trees will provide greenery and comfort.

The layout of this space will allow for the planting of large trees, creating a wide canopy capable of reducing heat island effects.

Around sixty trees will be planted on this new square!

In short, the future Place des Groues will become a lively, pleasant, and multifunctional space, designed to adapt to everyday life and the neighborhood's major festive events.
