A major urban project in Paris La Défense
The Rose de Cherbourg project aims to rebuild links between the business district and the town of Puteaux by giving more space to soft mobility, in particular through the transformation of the Rose de Cherbourg interchange into a suspended walkway inspired by New York's High Line. A new, higher-quality entrance to the city, a large square named Louise Bourgeois, welcomes new buildings. Existing green spaces have been enhanced. New services are offered: games, sports facilities.
Both an environmental and technical choice, the conservation of existing infrastructure has been the guiding principle of this major urban project.
The issues that shaped the project
Create a new destination!
- Ease traffic flow and make pedestrian crossings safer,
- Redesign a new entrance to the business district,
- Enhance the remaining green spaces and replant the site,
- Transform the interchange to give it a new use,
- Create a new mixed-use district offering services to users.
The main elements of the public spaces project
- A transformation of the circular boulevard interchange into a suspended promenade inspired by New York's High Line. This new 500-meter green space is open for strolling and sporting activities.
- A transformation of part of the circular boulevard into an urban boulevard (up to the Valettes intersection), which will feature a wide sidewalk and a bike path.
- A park.
- Recreational areas: a playground, a skate park, and a climbing area for children.
- A large pedestrian plaza.
La Rose de Cherbourg, one of the most important urban projects in Paris La Défense
In 2022, a new neighborhood was created on the outskirts of La Défense in Puteaux. New connections and public spaces were created, the area was greened, and numerous real estate projects are planned for the future. The entrance to the business district from Puteaux has been modernized.
Ambitious real estate projects
The future of the business district is being built on both improving the living environment and balanced real estate development. At the heart of the Rose de Cherbourg project, several flagship real estate developments have been developed:
- The restructuring of the Pascal towers is now complete and has given rise to Landscape, a building with all the characteristics of a sustainable and service-oriented structure;
- The Hekla tower, delivered in 2022, was designed by architect Jean Nouvel;
- YouFirst Campus Paris La Défense, originally called Campuséa, is a student residence delivered in 2019 and the little sister of the Hekla tower, offering a colorful design and panoramic views;
- Shops will eventually complete the transformation of the district.
A neighborhood designed with and for its residents
The consultation process, which involved residents from 2012 onwards, enabled them to participate in defining their new neighborhood and confirm their expectations on key issues:
- Improving pedestrian traffic within the neighborhood
- Creating welcoming public spaces
- Safety and security.
These priorities were explored in greater depth during thematic workshops and a series of discussions on the development of public spaces, which continued in 2020.

Did you know?
Why this poetic name for the Rose de Cherbourg urban project? In addition to the fact that the future intersection of buildings, roads, and soft connections will form a rose once the project is completed, the name was originally given to a loop-shaped road bridge that spans Route Nationale 13 in the La Défense district. It is also the starting point of the road that runs from Paris to Normandy.
