Combined with the Nobel Tower, built at a later date, the Bellini residence presents an ambitious composition combining a 25,000 m² low-rise office area with a 593-unit apartment block.
The main facades are enlivened by prefabricated panels arranged in an immense abstract painting. The secondary facades, on the other hand, alternate courtyards made up of solids and voids. The same layout was used by Jean Dubuisson for the Bercy-La Rapée project in Paris.
A word about the architect
First Grand Prix de Rome in 1945, Jean de Mailly (1911-1975) began his career with the reconstruction of the port of Toulon. Charged with the conservation of the Palais de Chaillot, he quickly became one of the emblematic figures of French modernism, combining classical architectural culture with functionalist theses. A concept he exported to La Défense, where he was involved in several projects: CNIT, Bellini residence, telephone exchange... In addition to architecture, Jean de Mailly also painted.
