With its 47 floors and 308 apartments, Défense 2000 is now considered the tallest residential tower in France and was the tallest in Europe when it was completed. Built directly on the ground, its balcony-like location offers exceptional views, and a panoramic gallery is available to residents.
The façade of Défense 2000 is composed of transverse walls that flare outwards towards the bottom to provide bracing. This widening is also accentuated by “fins” running up the first few floors.
Keen to offer a high-quality, functional product, the three architects planned a few exceptional duplex apartments on the top floors. A nursery school is also housed at the foot of the tower.
A word about architects
Known as one of the main architects of the Beaugrenelle district in Paris's 15th arrondissement, Michel Proux is no stranger to slab urbanism. He worked with Michel Holley on the Olympiades project in the capital's 13th arrondissement.
In 1974, in the midst of the Beaugrenelle project, which he took over after the death of Raymond Lopez in 1966, he joined forces with Demonès and Srot to launch Défense 2000. Far from stopping there, he collaborated, at the suggestion of Henry Bernard, with Michel Herbert on an original project for La Défense: the Manhattan Tower.
