Described as “the first charming building” by its developer, Promogim, the Ève tower is accessible from the Île-de-France building via a footbridge overlooking the public road. This makes it one of the most unusual buildings in La Défense, especially as it is one of the few mixed-use buildings in the district. Four floors of offices occupy the lower levels above the ground floor, which are themselves supported by an octagonal base also intended for offices. The other floors are reserved for housing, with more than 300 units. The layout of these units is partly determined by a framework of load-bearing walls.
The curved shape of Ève is reminiscent of the Montparnasse Tower in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, with the addition of continuous balconies.
A word about architects
Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1923, Jean-Baptiste Hourlier began his career by designing several school complexes in Fontainebleau, Blois, and Antony. As the architect responsible for the reconstruction of Lorient, he designed the Church of Saint-Louis there.
Together with Ivan Gury, who was also his son-in-law, Jean-Baptiste Hourlier designed several social housing buildings in the Paris region. In La Défense, the architect was responsible for two buildings, including the Eve Tower.
