Notre-Dame de Pentecôte is undoubtedly one of the most unique buildings in La Défense. Initially, it was more of a place of worship and religious ceremony without a parish, replacing a former prayer space. The church project itself emerged in 2001. Although the bell tower of Notre-Dame de Pentecôte, a translucent wall with a negative cross outline, is not the most conventional, it nevertheless places the building in its context while giving it a symbolism that the other towers lack. The absence of direct references nevertheless maintains a link with the architecture of La Défense.

A veritable box resting on six stilts, the building has three floors housing meeting rooms, a reception hall, and a liturgical space. Meticulous attention has been paid to the materials—marble and smooth concrete—and to the liturgical furnishings, created by sculptor Pierre Sabatier.

A word about the architect

Franck Hammoutène (1954) began his career by building the Gutenberg Library in Paris's 15th arrondissement. In 1989, he was commissioned to design the roof of the Grande Arche for the G20 summit. Most of his projects are notable for their dominant neo-modernism, making Hammoutène one of the most original figures on the new French scene.
