Designed and built in just two years, the Égée tower symbolizes the arrival of high-rise buildings in the neighborhood. It also introduces a new architectural style. The tapered shapes and fully glazed facades give way to more massive compositions borrowed from postmodernism. Glass remains present, but its use is tempered by the use of light-colored stone. Paradoxically, this stone is reminiscent of that used in the first generation of towers. The interior layout, however, is quite different. Spans of 10 m, achieved using prestressed hollow core slabs, reduce the number of columns in the offices. These are also designed to be easily reconfigured.
A word about the architect
It was in 1995 that Agence Conceptua, founded by Michel Andrault (1926) and Nicolas Ayoub, made its debut in La Défense. The two architects, one a leading figure in French architecture known for designing several master plans for the business district and the other co-designer of the Société Générale towers in 1995, launched their first project: the KPMG building (now Le Belvédère).
They then focused on the main buildings in the Faubourg de l'Arche district: the Cèdre tower, the Égée tower, and the Adria tower.
