Forming a series of enclosed spaces, the buildings house a covered circular plaza, another semi-circular plaza with a mineral feel, and an oval plaza planted with vegetation. According to the architects, this is a perfect blend of “the gigantism of La Défense and respect for those who live and work there.”
A word about architects
The Castro-Denissof agency was founded in 1988 by Roland Castro (1940) and Sophie Denissof (1955), who were later joined by Silvia Casi.
The designer of several public buildings and facilities in the 1980s, Roland Castro is best known for his opposition to the high-rise and tower block urban planning typical of the post-war boom years, as well as his efforts to “remodel” large housing estates, such as in Lorient and Jean Dubuisson's Caravelle in Villeneuve-la-Garenne.
In the early 1990s, he was commissioned by Charles Pasqua, then president of the Hauts-de-Seine departmental council, to “redesign” the department. This led the agency to work on the La Défense site. It designed Les Villages de l'Arche, the Colisée, the Pullman hotel, and worked on the development of the circular boulevard.
