The La Sirène project includes a housing complex (130 units) and a fire station. Originally commissioned from Pierre Bompaix, the project was ultimately entrusted by him to Guillaume Gilet.

The proliferation of terraces is reminiscent of the seaside architecture of the 1960s and 1970s, notably Marina Baie des Anges.

A word about the architect

Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1946, Guillaume Gillet (1912-1987) designed two buildings that are emblematic of post-war French architecture: the Notre-Dame de Royan church and the French pavilion at the Brussels World's Fair.

The architect, who designed numerous residential buildings and prisons, was also a committed activist. In 1972, he took a stand in the columns of Le Figaro against the construction of the Gan Tower in the Louvre's field of vision. Hostile to the abandonment of the 1956 urban plan, which set a maximum height for towers, he completed a single project in La Défense: the La Sirène housing complex.
