The 18 december 2025

The Cité de l'Histoire is organizing a new conference on Thursday, December 18, 2025, on the life and commitment of Arnaud Beltrame.

Hosted by Christophe Carichon, the conference will begin at 7 p.m. at the Cité de l'Histoire.

Arnaud Beltrame, “a hero for our times”

Colonel Arnaud Beltrame, a gendarmerie officer, died in 2018 while sacrificing himself to save a hostage during a terrorist attack in a supermarket in Trèbes. His courage and commitment had a strong impact in France and abroad. A few days after his death, a national tribute was paid to him, with many politicians in attendance to honor him. The conference on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Cité de l'Histoire, will be an opportunity to look back on the gendarme's career and his values.

Christophe Carichon is a historian and associate researcher at the Centre for Breton and Celtic Research at the University of Brest. He has written several books on Agnès de Nanteuil and on scouting. He also wrote a book on the life of Arnaud Beltrame, published in 2028.
