Les Groues: Construction Sites for Future Public Spaces

Juin 2026

Little by little, the Groues neighborhood in Nanterre—once a collection of brownfield sites—is giving way to a vibrant community that is fully integrated into the city and connected to La Défense and the area’s higher education institutions. With excellent access via the RER E line and, in the future, the Grand Paris Express Line 15, this neighborhood will serve as a hub for all local amenities in western Île-de-France.

Over the past several months, numerous projects have been completed, but there are still many construction sites active, particularly in public spaces.

Construction work on Nina Simone and Marie Marvingt alleys

Marie Varvingt Alley:

This alley will be exclusively for pedestrians. It will include:

  • a planted strip;

  • a 5.50-meter-wide roadway.

Work on the RTE power grid

RTE, the electricity transmission system operator, is replacing a 5.4-kilometer-long 225,000-volt underground power line. The construction site is located between Rue François Hanriot and Avenue François Arago in Nanterre. The project is being commissioned by RTE and carried out by the contractor Terca.

This work is necessary to:

  • secure the power supply;
  • support the region’s development;
  • continue to provide power to 1 million people.

Access will be maintained (for residents, emergency services, and deliveries), pedestrian paths will be secured, and the street will be closed in sections.

Construction schedule:

Start of work: April 2026
Completion: August 2026
