Work starts on the Parc de l'esplanade at La Défense in August

Construction of the future Parc de l'esplanade has begun! Paris La Défense is starting work on one of France's largest parks on a slab, which by mid-2028 will offer 5 hectares of green, renovated space.

With Le Parc, nature and community life take center stage! The Parc project is part of a strong commitment to halve greenhouse gas emissions and make Paris La Défense the world's first post-carbon business district.

Following an experimental phase since 2017 that has lasted several years, as well as a consultation with residents in 2019 and the installation of temporary planters in 2020, preparatory work on the Park will start this summer 2025 for overall delivery of the project in mid-2028.

A three-phase project

Plan de phasage du projet du Parc

Work will be carried out in three phases to limit on-site impact and inconvenience. Each phase will be delivered progressively, enabling users to enjoy the park as it progresses.

Paris La Défense will also be holding regular discussions with all those affected by the phases (residents, shopkeepers, businesses, hotels, etc.). The first exchanges with users affected by the first Western phase of the works took place between late June and early July 2025.

Main stages of the West phase

This first phase of work will take place between August 2025 and early 2027, and will include :

  • removal of planters, concrete slabs, studs and waterproofing (the fish in this area have already been relocated);
  • protection of existing trees, inventory and transplantation of certain plants to other gardens in La Défense;
  • recovery of soil for re-use;
  • waste sorting and disposal;
  • installation of new waterproofing, lightened backfill and new surfacing (concrete slabs, stabilized soil);
  • construction and impoundment of planted basins;
  • installation of soil and planting (trees, shrubs, lawns, flowerbeds... );
  • development of the children's play area;
  • street lighting and installation of furniture (benches, tables, drinking fountain, litter garbage cans. ..).
