The RER A and T2 lines will be suspended this summer of 2026 in Paris La Défense

As is often the case during the summer, the RATP is taking advantage of lower ridership to begin renovation and modernization work on its metro, RER, and tram lines. At La Défense, RER A and Tram 2 will be affected between Friday, June 5, and Sunday, August 23, 2026. These works aim to modernize the infrastructure, enhance safety, improve passenger comfort, and optimize passenger flow management at certain stations.

While two of La Défense’s main transportation routes are affected to varying degrees, there are plenty of other ways to reach the business district, minimizing the risk of being impacted by these construction projects. Read on to learn more!

Construction Schedule

Of all the construction projects planned by the RATP for the summer of 2026, only the RER A and Tram 2 will be affected in terms of access to the La Défense district.

Every weekend in June, the RER A line will be closed between Nanterre-Préfecture and Cergy-Le Haut / Poissy:

  • from Friday, June 5 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, June 7, 2026 (all day);
  • from Friday, June 12 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, June 14, 2026 (all day);
  • from Friday, June 19 at 10 p.m. to Saturday, June 20, 2026 (all day);
  • from Friday, June 26 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, June 28, 2026 (all day).

From Monday, July 13 through Sunday, August 23, 2026, Tram 2 will be completely suspended between the Puteaux and Charlebourg stations.

To learn more about line outages

While work is underway on the RER A line, a replacement bus service will serve the affected stops.

Despite the implementation of replacement buses, heavy traffic may disrupt service on this line. To minimize the impact on your commute and ensure maximum convenience, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with alternative routes. And that’s good news! Many other lines serve the business district, making La Défense one of the best-connected areas in the world thanks to one of the largest public transit networks, including:

  • Metro Line 1;
  • RER Lines A and E;
  • Transilien Lines U and L;
  • Tram Line 2;
  • Buses 73, 258, 141, 159, 275, 276, 360, 174, 278, 541, and 144.
